SUMMARY:  This short contribution shares the views of the author on how a cigar tasting
should be undertaken. Blending together the subjective and objective, the scientific and philosophical,
he proposes an approach to tasting involving all the aficionados’ senses. For Didier Houvenaghel,
the tasting of each cigar should be done with an open mind and with passionate appreciation;
thus increasing the enjoyment of the tasting and the intensity of its pleasure.

*Didier HOUVENAGHEL studied Sciences both at Free University of Brussels, Belgium
(M.Sc. Engineer in Agronomy Ir.) and Universidad de Pinar del Rio, Cuba (Master
Degree in Tropical Cultures). Amateur since the age of 18, he wrote the book “The
Cigar, from Soil to Soul” (Editions du Myosotis, 2008, 168pp, Belgium). Recognized
among the Cigar World as a good contributor to the culture of cigars, he also owns
the cigar brands including NICARAO that is sold in countries of different continents.
